On July 23, 2024, the Tiger Balm Garden Metaverse project received the Star of Outstanding Award at the 4th Global Awards for World Heritage Education Innovative Cases (AWHEIC). The event recognized innovative approaches to world heritage education.
The AWHEIC is organized by the World Heritage Institute of Training and Research-Asia and the Pacific Region, which operates under UNESCO. This year’s competition saw over 100 project submissions from around the world.
The Tiger Balm Garden Metaverse project uses virtual reality to recreate the historic Tiger Balm Garden. During the award ceremony, the project team presented their case study. They outlined the project’s development process and its educational impact.
Many supporters and stakeholders joined the ceremony online. The project team acknowledged the collective effort that went into the project over the past three years.
The team stated their intention to continue developing new methods for heritage education. The Tiger Balm Garden Metaverse project demonstrates how technology can be used to preserve and teach about cultural heritage in the digital era.
