Hong Kong Chu Hai College and Saint Francis University Co-host Seminar Series on AI Applications in Health Science and Dental Science

Hong Kong Chu Hai College and Saint Francis University successfully co-hosted the “Seminar Series on Artificial Intelligence Applications in Health Science and Dental Science” from 27 to 29 May 2026. The three-day event featured lectures, keynote presentations, technical sessions and student workshops focusing on the applications of artificial intelligence in health science, nursing, healthcare and dental science.

Driven by rapid advancements in machine learning and computing infrastructure, AI has emerged as an important research frontier in modern healthcare and dentistry. The seminar series brought together distinguished scholars, healthcare and dental experts, nursing academics, IT professionals and AI researchers from local and international institutions to exchange knowledge, share experiences and discuss recent research outcomes.

The first two days of the seminar series were held at Saint Francis University and Hong Kong Chu Hai College respectively. The programme covered a wide range of topics, including signal processing, machine learning, non-invasive blood glucose estimation, deep reinforcement learning, generative AI, multi-modal sensing, nursing applications and AI-assisted dentistry.

Keynote and invited speakers included Prof. LING Wing Kuen, Bingo, Prof. TSOI Ah Chung, Prof. XIAO Qian, Prof. XING Guoliang, Prof. Graeme D. Smith, and Prof. LAM Yu Hang, Walter. Among them, Prof. Graeme D. Smith, Professor of Nursing at the S.K. Yee School of Health Sciences, Saint Francis University, delivered a talk titled “Generative AI at the Bedside: Implications for Clinical Nursing Practice”, highlighting the growing relevance of AI technologies in frontline healthcare and nursing environments.

The third day was dedicated to a student workshop at Hong Kong Chu Hai College. The workshop introduced students to fundamental AI concepts through learning activities, simulation exercises and software demonstrations. Led by faculty members from the Department of Computer Science, including Dr. ZHU Yulin and Dr. TSANG Sik Ho, Harris, the session offered students hands-on exposure to AI applications and encouraged them to explore the role of technology in healthcare-related fields.

The seminar series provided a valuable platform for interdisciplinary exchange among computer science, healthcare, nursing and dental science professionals. It also strengthened academic collaboration between Hong Kong Chu Hai College and Saint Francis University, while promoting student engagement in emerging AI applications.

The event was organized by the Department of Computer Science, Hong Kong Chu Hai College, and the S.K. Yee School of Health Sciences, Saint Francis University, with support from the Research Grants Council of the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region, China under the funding source UGC/IIDS13/E01/25.
