With the start of a new academic year, we are pleased to announce that the AI lab is now complete. This project has been a team effort focused on improving the teaching and research experiences for both our students and faculty.
After a thorough evaluation of proposals from several vendors, we selected Centralfield for the project, with a total investment of around 1.1 million HKD. The construction of the AI lab commenced on August 16, beginning with the decommissioning of outdated computer equipment. During this phase, we encountered a challenge with the delayed delivery of graphics cards, which initially limited our computer availability. In response, we promptly adapted by substituting the Strix 4090d graphics cards with TUF 4090d models, ensuring that 23 computers were operational to meet the immediate needs of our students.
These computers are now shared among 46 students in the Applied AI Master’s program, enabling them to dive into their studies and projects. By mid-September, all computers had arrived, and we set about installing essential software like Anaconda, PyCharm, and VirtualBox, among others. We’ve also equipped the lab with 4K monitors, laser pointers, microphones, and drawing pads to make sure everyone has the tools they need.
