1 March 2025
The 5th International Conference on Computer Communication and Information Systems (CCCIS 2025) was held in Hong Kong from February 28 to March 2. Organized by Hong Kong Chu Hai College and supported by the Sensors and Systems Society of Singapore, the conference served as a platform for knowledge exchange and collaboration in the fields of computer communication and information systems.
Professor Wai Lun LO shared his ongoing research on improving meteorological visibility estimation using Artificial Neural Networks (ANN). His talk titled “Image-Based Meteorological Visibility Estimation by Using ANN,” explored how AI and digital image processing can address the limitations of traditional methods in this field. Professor Lo explained that conventional visibility estimation techniques, which rely on meteorological laws and handcrafted image features, are often hindered by sensitivity to image quality and noise. His research proposes a novel AI-driven approach that utilizes pre-trained convolutional neural networks and ANN to improve accuracy. A notable aspect of his work involves analyzing specific sub-regions within digital images to extract meaningful features, which are then mapped to visibility values.
The conference featured a diverse range of keynote speeches, technical sessions, creating a welcoming environment for participants to share their research and explore new ideas. Hong Kong Chu Hai College is deeply honored to have had the opportunity to host CCCIS 2025 and to contribute to this meaningful exchange of ideas. We extend our heartfelt thanks to all the organizers, sponsors, and participants for their invaluable support in making this event a success.
