(Dec 2022) Recently, two academic staff of the department of Computer Science (Dr. Richard Tai Chiu HSUNG, Associate Professor, CS dept. and Prof. Wai Lun LO, Professor, Head of CS dept. and Associate Dean of Faculty Science and Engineering) have been appointed as Honorary Associate Professor and Honorary Professor in the Faculty of Dentistry of University of Hong Kong (HKU) as follows.
Dr. Richard Tai Chiu HSUNG, Honorary Associate Professor in Oral & Maxillofacial Surgery of the Faculty of Dentistry, University of Hong Kong, 1/8/2022 – 31/7/2024
Prof. Wai Lun LO, Honorary Professor in Restorative Dental Science of the Faculty of Dentistry, University of Hong Kong, 1/12/2022-30/11/2024
Dr. Richard HSUNG is an active researcher in the CS department, he focuses on collaborative research with the faculty of Dentistry of the HKU and he has been the Principal Investigator and Co-Investigator 4 RGC funded research projects. His research area includes biomedical signal and image processing, 3D scanning and processing, artificial neural network and machine learning, etc. Prof. Lo is also an active researcher in the CS dept. He has been the Principal Investigator, Project Leader, and Co-Investigator of 15 RGC/EDB QESS funded research projects. His research area includes Artificial Intelligence applications, computer vision, and applications of Virtual Reality.
Dr. Richard HSUNG and Prof. LO have formed a research team with Dr. Walter LAM (Clinical Assistant Professor, Faculty of Dentistry of the HKU) and the team will have collaborative research for the RGC funded research project “Automatic multiple level gum disease detections based on the deep neural network: algorithm and system” in the coming three years. Dr. Richard HSUNG and Prof. LO would like to express their sincere gratitude to the faculty of Dentistry of HKU for the appointments. They expect that the CSC/HKU research team will have research contributions in the area of applications of Artificial Intelligence and Computation Algorithms in Biomedical engineering.
